How to Tackle Deep Cleaning of Your Home

Sometimes regular cleaning might not be enough - if you are one of those people who set their expectations really high, you should consider following a deep cleaning routine.

Probably we all agree could that living in an impeccably clean home feels great, but cleanliness means something different for everyone. You might be one of those people who deeply enjoy having a squeaky clean home, and are willing to make a big effort cleaning just for the sake of your comfort. However, if you or some of your family members suffer from asthma or allergy symptoms, deep cleaning is a prerequisite to physical well-being.

In the following article, SPIC AND SPAN. team would like to provide you with some ideas to keep in mind before you plan a thorough, deep cleaning of your home.

Make an effort to declutter

If you look through all your belongings and get rid of everything you don’t need before you start cleaning, it will make the whole process much easier and faster. Wiping down surfaces that have very few items lying on top of them is more pleasant than picking up all knick-knacks and then putting them back where they belong.

Decluttering doesn't mean that your place must be completely empty, but if that's what you want - nothing's stopping you!

Dust and wipe down all surfaces…

…and that includes the inside of all cabinets, cupboards, and drawers! Even though inner surfaces won’t pick up dust that fast, you're more likely to neglect them. It’s a great idea to remove the contents of your cabinets once in a while and wipe down the inside with an all-purpose cleaner.

Don’t forget about deep cleaning the floors

If you have high standards when it comes to cleanliness, there are high chances that you already got rid of carpets at your home. Of course, carpets can be thoroughly vacuumed and cleaned with a special cleaning agent. Unfortunately, you can never sanitize them like hard floors. In order to make your floor deep cleaning routine a bit easier, you can enforce a no-shoe rule at home.

Clean out the fridge

The fridge is probably the most frequently used appliance in every household so you should keep it clean at all times. After all, it’s where you store your food. Once every few weeks all removable surfaces should be taken out and thoroughly washed with dish soap. In addition, you can use a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water to wipe down all inner surfaces in the fridge. This mixture will get rid of unpleasant smells and sanitize the fridge as a bonus.

Deep clean your bathroom…

…with an old toothbrush! You can reach all nooks and crannies in your bathroom and ensure it’s squeaky clean and sanitized. White vinegar is a fantastic, non-toxic bathroom cleaner. It kills mildew, dissolves calcium deposits, and has deep cleaning, antiseptic properties.

Toothbrushes can come in handy while cleaning - just make sure you know which one is the one you actually use to brush your teeth!

Dedicate some attention to light fixtures

Since light fixtures aren’t easily accessible without a ladder, they tend to pick up a lot of dust. Make sure your deep cleaning includes wiping them down with a damp cloth, and getting rid of dead insects if there are any.

Light fixtures can get really dusty so it's important to wipe them down one in a while.
